If you own the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 device and you fancy installing a custom ROM, you can install Jelly Bean 4.2.2 by way of the Slim Build 5 ROM. This will install Android 4.2 XWLSS on your handset.
The SlimROM team has released the SlimBean build 5 ROM for many handsets, including the Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300, the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 and the i9100G version. You can get the latest ROM for i9100 with credit going to XDA senior member HardCorePawn. The ROM was based on the original Android Open Source Project and it offers new customisation options, along with enhancements to features.
Some of the original features in the SlimROM include, notification drawer shortcuts, full hardware key rebinding, keyboard rotation and Slim Centre.
If you want to install the ROM there are some points to note:
The ROM is for the international variation of the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100. You should check this by going into settings > About Phone.
You should back up the handset using a recovery tool such as ClockworkMod or TWRP.
Make sure that you have the USB drivers installed on your computer.
Make sure that USB debugging is installed on your device. You can check for this by going into Settings > Developer Options on Android 4 or later, or if you have Android 2.3 or later in Settings > Applications > Development. If you have Android 4.2 you can check in Settings > About Phone, scroll to the bottom and choose build number. You can then tap on the build number 7 times to reveal the Developer Options in Settings, which are hidden. Then choose enable USB debugging in Settings > Developer options.
You should check to make sure that you have at least 80% battery.
Check that the handset is unlocked and that it has been rooted with CWM recovery.
If your Samsung Galaxy S2 is stuck as booting or you have boot loops, you should Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache a few more times and then reboot.
You should wait for five minutes for the ROM to stabilise before using it.
Follow the instructions carefully and of course you do undertake the installation at your own risk.
1. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S2 to the computer with the original USB cable
2. Without extracting, copy the downloaded ROM and Google Apps zip files to the root folder on the phone’s SD card
3. Turn off the phone and disconnect its USB cable from computer
4. Press and hold Volume Up, Power and Home buttons together until the Samsung logo appears on screen. Then release all three buttons for half a second and hold them again to boot the device into CWM recovery. Note: Use Volume keys to navigate between options and Power key to select an option in recovery.
5. Take a Nandroid backup of the current ROM so that it can be restored later if the new ROM fails to work or you want to return to original ROM. To do a backup, choose Backup and Restore, and then click Backup on the next screen. Return to main recovery menu once backup is done.
6. Perform a full data wipe task as follows: choose Wipe Data/Factory Reset then click Yes on next screen to confirm. Wait for a few minutes until the data wipe process completes. Then return to CWM recovery main menu and click Wipe Cache Partition and wait until process is complete. Finally, choose Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option.
7. Choose Install zip from SD card and then click Choose zip from SD card. Now, navigate to the Slim Bean Build 5 ROM zip file that you copied earlier to your phone in Step 2 and select it by tapping Power button. Confirm the ROM installation by choosing Yes on next screen and the installation will begin.
8. After the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean SlimBean ROM is installed, repeat step 7. But choose the Slim Bean Google apps zip file instead of ROM zip to install Google apps.
9. Once Google Apps is also installed, return to the main recovery menu and hit reboot system now to reboot the phone into the newly installed Slim Bean Build 5 ROM. The first boot may take some time. So, please be patient.
10. Returning to Previous ROM: To restore your previous ROM, boot into recovery, choose Backup and Restore then restore your original ROM by selecting it from the list.
There you go. Your Samsung Galaxy S2 should now be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean by way of the SlimBean ROM.
